ASHIC International

The ASHIC International Program is maintained to ensure a continuous feed into the development of new projects. ASHIC seeks to cultivate relationships with international agencies so that we are aware of contemporary developments in pediatric oncology, can explore ways of providing better service to our children and partner with relevant agencies in providing these services.

We have had several international partners over time, the longest relationships being with the National Children’s Cancer Society (“NCCS”) of USA, International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parents Organizations (“ICCCPO”) and the Moments of Joy Foundation of The Netherlands. We also had a long-standing relationship with Camp Quality of Australia, an organization that helped with the development of the ASHIC Outing Program.

NCCS: the partnership with NCCS has been in effect since 1997. Under our arrangement, ASHIC started receiving donations of important medicine, medical equipment and other goods that NCCS raises as donations from different manufacturers in the United States. Once it reaches Bangladesh, ASHIC is fully responsible for distributing these materials, free of cost, to different hospitals in the country. The distribution projects have been organized with the help of hospital authorities and other volunteers, to ensure minimal misuse. This program has already benefited more than 7,000 patients.

ICCCPO: ASHIC has been a full member of ICCCPO since 2000. Through the various conferences organized by ICCCPO, ASHIC has managed to develop an important network of friends and well-wishers all around the world. Since ICCCPO declared February 15^th to be the International Childhood Cancer Day (“ICCD”), ASHIC has managed to celebrate the day with much gusto, which has helped raise awareness about cancer throughout Bangladesh.

Moments of Joy Foundation: This is a non-profit organization that sponsors worldwide projects that help children. Since 2002, the Moments of Joy Foundation has been touched by the work ASHIC is doing for the children in Bangladesh and have allocated some donations that have funded some of the ASHIC projects. The most recent of such projects is the ASHIC Expedition, which will host its first outing in March 2004.
