ASHIC Outing Program

In the developed world, all pediatric wards also house a playroom: a testament to the equal emphasis on the emotional well being as well as a child’s physical recovery. From the very beginning, ASHIC Foundation has believed strongly in this philosophy and, as such, the ASHIC Outing Program is one of ASHIC’s very first programs to be introduced.

The program is designed to get the ASHIC family together and spend an enjoyable afternoon (or a day) at interesting places. The hope is that this brief interlude helps the children, and their families, to get away from a world of painful treatment and just enjoy the pleasures of life.

At its beginning, the venues for the Outing Program was rotated every month but it became difficult to manage costs under this routine. Since 2002, Concord Entertainment Ltd., owner of the Fantasy Kingdom amusement park in Ashulia, has arranged for free admittance to a 30-member ASHIC family on Monday afternoons each week. This has been a tremendous blessing for the ASHIC children, who love the lively ambience and all the fun rides at the park.

With help from the Moments of Joy Foundation, ASHIC is currently planning to introduce a bi-annual ASHIC Expedition, which will be a 2-days/ 1-night trip to places of interest within driving distance from Dhaka. We are excited about the project and hope to have our first Expedition by March 2004.
