ASHIC Play Center

Following on its philosophy of ‘play therapy is just as important as medical therapy for a child’s recovery’, in 1997, ASHIC, with some assistance from the Ladies of the Rotary club of Dhaka West, established a play center at the pediatric ward of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital ("DMCH"). The first of its kind in the country, the center is open to all children in the ward but provides special privileges to cancer-affected children. More than 250 children pass through the center each year.

The center is equipped with all sorts of toys, storybooks, painting materials etc. ASHIC also provides for a playmate, who supervises the children and maintains liaison with the hospital authorities on a regular basis.

In 2003, ASHIC opened a similar facility at the Sylhet Medical College Hospital, located in the metropolitan city of Sylhet.
