VisionASHIC’s ultimate objective is to have a state-of-the-art
hospital that will specialize in serving cancer-affected children.
In order to transform this dream into reality, ASHIC envisions a phased
plan, some of which have been implemented to date: Phase 1: 1993 - present
Introduce programs that increase awareness of childhood cancer and provide emotional support to the children and families. This includes the ASHIC Newsletter, ASHIC Outing Program, Somobyathi and the ASHIC Patient Service. Phase 2: 1997 – present
After the Choudhury family demonstrated that the projects from Phase 1 were helpful to the affected families, ASHIC introduced a few more programs that allowed more interaction with the local and international medical communities. These projects were the Play Center at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the establishment of the ASHIC – NCCS Assistance Program. Phase 3: 2000 - present
In order to serve the ASHIC core clientele i.e. financially disadvantaged families, many of whom were coming to Dhaka from rural areas, ASHIC introduced the hugely successful Shelter program. The Shelter serves as a means of improving relations with the medical community and also with increasing the likelihood of the children continuing with their follow-up treatment. Phase 4: Future steps
ASHIC would like to introduce a program to provide Palliative Care, establish a Day Treatment Center and eventually establish a full-fledged, specialized research hospital. The success of each and every phase for ASHIC has depended on awareness, assistance and financial support from individuals and organizations. We hope that as we take our next necessary steps, you will also get involved. |
