Today's Opening Ceremony looks to be a star-studded event. First, we know that legendary rapper Snoop Dogg will carry the Olympic torch. The torch relay is one of the great Olympic traditions and "Snoop D-O-Double-G" will carry the torch in one of the relay's final sections.
But "Tha Doggfather" isn't the only celebrity to expect at the Opening Ceremony in Paris. Celine Dion and Lady Gaga are rumored not only to appear at the festivities but to sing "La Vie en Rose" together on stage. Rumors started flying on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday after the duo of iconic singers were spotted practicing together by French journalist Thierry Moreau.
The Opening Ceremony of the Paris Games is an all-day affair. In the U.S., coverage of the Opening Ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. ET. The main event will officially get underway live at 1:30 p.m. ET. Watch the Opening Ceremony at Olympics 2024 as the perfect appetizer to the festival of sports that lies ahead for the following fortnight. Below we have all the information on how to watch the opening ceremony at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games from anywhere in the world with details on worldwide TV channels, broadcasters and free streams.
The latest Opening Ceremony rumour is that Lady Gaga and Céline Dion will headline the event by closing with a duet of Édith Piaf’s La Vie en rose. Lady Gaga was spotted in rehearsal floating down the Seine on a white piano! The bad news is that rain has been forecast and the organisers have hinted that they will switch to alternative plans of some sort to avoid a washout. Hopefully, this will still include the stellar singing duo.
This year, for the very first time, the Olympic Opening Ceremony will not take place in the main arena. Instead, France and the ceremony's creative director, Thomas Jolly, have decided to take the spectacle outside and, specifically, on to the River Seine. The athletes' parade will take place on boats, with competitors floating through the centre of France's iconic capital. The 300,000 spectators in person and millions watching around the world are likely to be in for a veritable French fancy of delights over the 3-hour and 45-minute event.
Running just under four hours, the open-air pageant will play as a nautical cruise, following 85 boats — each carrying an Olympic delegation — on a four-mile parade through the city’s main artery. Setting off from Pont d’Austerlitz and culminating at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the event will make use of the city’s historical sites and locales, staging twelve living tableaus, overseen by French theatre director Thomas Jolly and brought to life by 3,500 actors, dancers, and musical performers.
Tennis sensation Coco Gauff serves as this year’s female flag bearer for the U.S., alongside three-time Olympian Lebron James.
Perhaps most exciting is that Celine Dion is set to make her return to the stage at the Opening Ceremony. It will mark the pop legend’s first performance since halting her touring schedule and stepping away from the spotlight after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in December 2022.
Dion arrived in Paris on Monday at the Royal Monceau hotel near the Champs-Élysées, where Lady Gaga, another potential opening ceremony headliner, is also staying.
Although several disciplines have already kicked off at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the official start will be marked by the Opening Ceremony on July 26, when the Olympic flame lights up the cauldron.

The event will take place on the Seine River and the Trocadero, adding a unique twist to the Paris Olympics. For the first time, the Opening Ceremony will not begin in a stadium, with athletes instead parading through Paris on the Seine.
Athletes will traverse the city on a 3.7-mile-long route, with the entire ceremony expected to last at least three hours. Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky, LeBron James, Sha'Carri Richardson, Novak Djokovic, and Rory McIlroy are among the most famous athletes primed for Paris.
